#DIESE & Paris Opera: Managing Complex Productions with Ease

#DIESE Opera National de Paris

Managing a world-class opera house

The Paris Opera oversees around twenty opera productions and an equal number of ballets each season. These take place across three Parisian venues: Palais Garnier, Opéra Bastille, and the 3rd Stage.

Coordinating productions, artistic teams, and resources is critical. The institution must ensure artistic continuity while keeping management processes reliable.

Meeting highly specific operational needs

Since 2015, the Opera needed a system to:

  • Manage productions, casts, and artist contracts
  • Plan activities across multiple venues without handling touring schedules
  • Handle complex production inventories, especially costumes

Beyond volume, the precision required by its departments shaped the project. Managing the lyrical repertoire, cast assignments, and rights demands extreme accuracy.

#DIESE as the backbone for production management

To address these challenges, the Paris Opera relies on #DIESE. Key capabilities include:

  • Managing productions and repertoire across three levels: titles, productions, works
  • Comprehensive space planning
  • Advanced contact and contract management
  • Detailed production inventories, including costumes
  • Customized budget tracking
  • Analytics and reporting

#DIESE also integrates with the Opera’s existing systems. DocuSign is used for contract signing, and the API supports internal workflows and custom processes.

A partnership that evolves with the Opera

As a long-term client of IT4Culture, the Paris Opera helped shape #DIESE’s development. Many standard features, like repertoire management and cast tracking, originated from this collaboration.

Some features remain unique to the Opera. Document handling, budgeting, and costume management require custom configurations. This mix of standard and tailored functionality allows #DIESE to adapt to the Opera’s exact operational needs.

A sustainable and adaptable workflow

Implemented in 2015, #DIESE now runs on a stable, evolving platform. The IT department oversees the system and guides teams on its daily use.

New modules, such as the Academy added in 2025, are gradually integrated. This approach keeps the Opera aligned with operational realities while supporting complex workflows across multiple sites.
